Alumni Association Scholarships

The application period for the 2008-2009 scholarship is now closed. Please check back in the Fall for the posting of the 2009-2010 scholarship applications.

About the Association Scholarship . . .
Initially funded by life members of the Alumni Association, other contributors now make donations to the the Alumni Association Member Scholarships. Thirty-eight students have been helped in pursuing their goals of higher education at Sacramento State. This has been accomplished in just six years because of donations, both large and small, from those that value the education they received while attending Sacramento State. The $1000 scholarships are awarded within three categories: Incoming Freshman, Continuing Undergraduate, and Graduate.

About the Visual and Performing Arts Foundation Scholarships . . .

  • The Dorothy Augusta Memorial Music Scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in music, with preference given to a student who plans to pursue education and a career in vocal music.

About the Hank Elespuru Scholarship . . .
The Henry "Hank" Elespuru Scholarship is being endowed in his memory by alumni and admirers of the late coach who began his career at Sacramento State in 1955. Pres. Guy West recruited Hank to be the Boxing Coach and Assistant Football Coach. While he was the Boxing Coach from 1955 through 1961, his record grew more successful each year, producing some great boxers who won gold, silver and bronze medals in both the NCAA and Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Tournaments.

After boxing was dropped at Sac State, Hank formed a class in the sport for both men and women. The classes were always full, and at the end of every semester, students boxed each other at a popular evening event.

The first Elespuru Scholarship will be awarded in 2007 to a student athlete. Applications will be available at a later date.
